Flight Lieutenant Ken Sly, an Australian, was for some years the Commanding Officer at the R.A.F. Battys outpost on the Peak, with Frank Curzon as his Senior Non Commissioned Officer. During World War II, Ken was a 19 year old Lancaster pilot, flying on many operations. Later he retrained as a linguist and in the late 1970s and early 1980s he took part in some of the first trade links with China. His autobiography, 'Horse Grows Horns' documents his interesting life.
