The note on the back of the photo (one of the many sent home to the Netherlands by my grandparents) reads (in Dutch): "On de raod around the island. De Kant and we. Honkkong, November 1925". The "we" are my grandparents, Pieter Marks and Margaretha Geertruida Groot. "De Kant" is Pieter Julius de Kant, born 23 December 1897 in Enschede, the Netherlands, and in 1921 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, married to Kitty Rachel Ricardo, born 19 November 1901 in London, UK. Like my grandfather De Kant was then employed by the Netherlands-Indian Commercial Bank (Nederlandsch-Indische Handelsbank) in their Hong Kong Des Voeux Road office.
