It looks like Hennessy Road at the junction with Stewart (left) and Johnston Road (somewhere right). Guess it's the same view as here:
I'm only missing the tram tracks on the 1961 photo.

Yes, it is the same view. Harrison Forman also took a lot of photos of the intersection and the petrol station in 1940-41.
