The Verandah at Peninsula Hotel in 1930s.png

I guess this photo is very rare as we’re unable to enjoy the scenery due to there’s no table outside at “Verandah” today. And I understood why this place called “Verandah”.

The photo was from APPLE DAILY, and the scene reminds me “Good old days” in Hong Kong.

It was a very old story, when I stayed this hotel at my first time, I was surprised as I knew I had no need to keep my room key whenever going out of the room. There’s a staff at my floor, and he always took the head and kindly opened the door of my room. (Elevator staff also remembered my face and he stopped it at my floor without my asking.) At the time, I thought it was very "Peninsula Way". However, of course today, we can’t experience this unique “Treat” as the metal key of the room has changed to the plastic card key. And many of young guests may not want this kind of service at the hotel.

Verandah is the special place, especially, in the morning even today. Because most of the guests staying this hotel take their breakfast at their own rooms. (Peninsula Hotel basically would not accept “Tour Group," consequently many of the guests never gather at Verandah at the same time. ) So Verandah in the morning is always not in use and calm against the café at Lobby is crowded.

Though the window roof in blue and white at Verandah was changed to concrete one, I hope the calmness and the polite manner here are not changed.
