Somewhere in the Yuen Long / Kam Tin area. Totally changed by river straightening and now unrecognisable. Can anyone locate it from the hills in the background?
Now in November 2024 I have an answer. Recalling my early 2000s conversation with an old lady in Yuen Long (via a multilingual man), she told me that the river had been straightened.
Checking on Map 1963.2, I see that between Yuen Long and Kam Tin there is only the one river which the old Kam Tin road crosses - about 500m to the west of Kam Tin. That must be the spot where I took this photograph and on a visit in 1981 I was able to recognise the spot and take another one there. The two banana plants are visible on each image and the paling fence is also visible. I'll rename the title to 'Kam Tin river' and add a pin on the Gwulo map. Andrew
