These were always known to us as squatters' huts.  The ordered layout suggests that they were more likely to have been purpose built by a Governmental department and were a first attempt to relieve the chronic housing situation of the early 1950s.  Pill box 38 might just be visible at the seaward edge of the 'island' in the centre of the bay.
