Back in the early 1970s one of our hiking companions told tales of his activities gun running and moving strategic goods up to Canton at night on armed Junks just after the war. At the time I never really believed him as he didn't seem the type who would get involved in such things. More recently I came across a number of pictures dated circa 1948 in the Harrison Forman Collection often mentioned on this site, of Junks armed with vintage cannons, guns and armour plating around the decks moored in Hong Kong. Supposedly blockade runners. No doubt a bit of piracy was indulged in as well.
