Changed date from 1953 to 1956. In 1953, the eastern section of Alexandra House wasn't built, but this photo shows it already completed.
1956 is a guess - any clues for a more accurate date welcome.

Maybe 1959?
The front facade of the Chartered bank (the 4 story bit sticking out) seems to be finished, but it still has scaffolding on it, that leads me to think 1958-59.
But I'm usually wrong ;-)

Another clue to the date
The building, Kwok Man House, to the east of the Bank of East Asia when viewed in the early 1950s as seen: http://gwulo.com/node/7572 and http://gwulo.com/node/3038 , had verandahs facing Des Voeux Road Central whereas in the flickr photo, the building's facade appears to have been changed with the verandahs enclosed and columns being more prominent.
