25 Marker stone on Peel Rise [????- ]

If you're walking the Hong Kong trail in a clockwise direction, you'll see this stone where it meets Peel Rise. The stone is on the opposite side of Peel Rise.

The stone is mostly buried in concrete and tarmac, so it's not possible to see if anything is engraved on the sides. The top is engraved with '<- 25 ->', with the arrows pointing along the direction of Peel Rise.

Hi there,

I was there again last weekend and suddenly realized '<--- 241' is engraved on one of the visible sides.  It was not clear enough in my previous picture so I am putting an updated one here:

The footpath is just to the left of the stone.  I don't know why am I so blind prevously.  That's the same footpath that I went bush wacking late last year.  A section of route 241 is visible if you look up from the catch water along the Island Trail.  You should be able to see the short pilars and chains up there.  That's where I nearly slipped and might have tumbled down while passing through.

At that location along the catch water there is a bridge and some steps on the other side, which is actually a service path for HKE engineerings.

Hi Thomas,

I've seen it marked on the map, and even had a peer along the start of the path, but haven't walked it yet. How clear is it as you get further along? A winter-only scramble, or a clear walk suitable for summer too?

Hi there,

I was there in early spring.   It was not that wet, but I nearly slipped in one of the streams.  There are at least three streams/gullies along the path.  Summer should be OK if it had been dry for a while.  Definitely a no-no in rainy seasons.  It should be easier in late autumn though.

Last time I did not start besides the marker stone.  Instead I took another path to the west of the pavilion nearby, which intersected route 241.  But from there I went through till 241 joined route 24 again.

I think only HKE maintenance workers use part of that path now.

Went down the Peel Rise from the Peak last Friday and took this at Peel Rise along the catch water towards a section of route 241:

If you zoom in, the route 241 foot path is where the rope is up on the rock face.  If you trace its direction a faint foot path on the left hand side could also be seen.  The path is also in used by HEC for the pylon maintenance.  To go up the foot path, the easiest way is to use the small foot bridge across the catch water and go up the steps.

Route 241 connects to the foot bridge across the water fall further west, and towards Aberdeen Reservoir Road to the east.
