May Road Peak Tram Station is described by Booth as at the steepest part of the track, and uphill from here was a "small signal box in which a man changed the points at the passing place".

Hi Phil, I suggest that you move the marker uphill to the actual place of the passing point (the OSM map helps). The opening date for the crossing is the same as for the Peak Tram, i.e. 1888,

The current marker is more for the "May Road Station, Peak Tram [1915-]" which should be added.

Hi Klaus, I seem to remember the marker was for the road itself rather than the crossing point. Booth was describing the section of May Road he was on. A lot of these "Golden Boy" tagged markers might appear a bit random without the context of the book. Feel free to add a new marker for the crossing point. Phil

One of the very early place markers on Gwulo based on Booth's book.

At first glance, I think the title of the place location may lead one to infer the "passing point" of the Peak Trams above May Road Station as the signal box and passing place are also mentioned.

Over the years, photos have been added in to show not only the passing place but also the Station.

To capture Booth's view from May Road of the ascent of the Peak Tram, signal box and passing place, perhaps the creation of a "polygon" showing the stretch from May Road to the passing place. Just a suggestion without the need of altering the preamble.

I still think that Booth referred to the actual crossing point. He wrote: "small signal box in which a man changed the points at the passing place". I will shortly upload a photo that shows the signal box and the crossing point just above. In the photo is also the tram station. My suggestion for the title is Crossing point of the Peak Tram above May Road.

Hi Klaus,I re-read the passage, and it looks as though he is talking about the May Road tram stop. He makes reference to the passing place, but the main focus appears to be how difficult it was to board the tram there (tram stop) until the tram stopped bouncing on its cable. I'll adjust the marker to the station as that seems to be most appropriate given the context. Title updated as well. Cheers, Phil

Hi Phil, thank you for re-reading Booth's chapter regarding May Road. I think he described what he saw standing on May Road bridge over the Peak Tram. I guess it was similar to what can be seen in the photo below:

You wrote (see above): ...and uphill from here was a "small signal box in which a man changed the points at the passing place".

This is in the photo! Uphill from the station, a man in a white uniform is standing just next to the car. Next to him seems to be a signal mast, and the a small hut. Cheers, Klaus

P.S. If you don't mind, I will create an extra place for the passing loop.

Klaus, please feel free to create a place. You've just sent me on a nostalgia trip back to 2008 when we first did the Golden Boy locations! I've done a quick re-jig of some pages but new places can be added anytime and are very welcome. Phil

With the recent name change to "May Road Station", older photos do not show the station. The road came into being around 1907. In the early 1900s, the intermediate stops were at Kennedy, Bowen and Plantation (Barker) Roads.
