The photo captures the former one-way east to west traffic flow arrangement on Macdonnell Road. Vehicles leaving Macdonnell Road would turn uphill to join Garden Road. Single -decker CMB buses on the 12A route normally had difficulty in ascending Garden Road. The current one-way traffic flow on Macdonnell Road is in the reverse direction.
The photo also shows the completed pedestrian bridge across Garden Road from north of the YWCA building to the Botanical Gardens.
