Douglas Steamship Co. Ltd. was strongly involved in the China coast trade. After the communists' victory in China, the trade ended in 1951. The lack of trading opportunities put high financial pressure on the company, which decided to sell their two remaining ships and to become an investment company. (Sources here and here)

The Hong Kong facilities (Douglas Building and Douglas Streamship Co. Wharf) were no longer needed and sold. Likely, both the building and wharf were demolished in 1952 or 1953. The Douglas building was replaced by the The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce Building, which opened in 1954.

In this photo from 1954 (or possibly 1953) the wharf has been removed already.
