Hi there,

Noted the map cited Belcher Bay also as Lap Sap Wan.  Previously only read the same name in Mr Brey's book, mentioning the reclamation of Gin Drinker's Bay using garbage.

I hadn't heard that name used on Hong Kong island before, either. Chadwick's report says it was where the night soil and general rubbish was taken after it was collected from the city area:

92. The scavenging contractor [...] provides boats with crews, which come alongside the Praya at specified points, between the hours of 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. in summer and 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. in winter. In these boats he receives and removes to Lap-sap-Wan street sweepings, rubbish, and night-soil. The former is thrown on the beach, the latter transferred to junks as described.
