When this photo was taken, it seems that the St John Church had not been modified yet. This photo must be taken before 1869.(Unfortunately, this photo is not clear enough).

On 16th November 1869, His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh laid the Foundation Stone of the New Chancel - the part of the buildng nearest Garden Road. It was extended further toward Garden Road. You can compare photos here: http://gwulo.com/saint-johns-cathedral

Date of the photo: 1871
There is no sign of the St. Joseph's Church (1st generation) [1872-1874]. It was blessed by Bishop Colomber of Sai Kung on 1872 11 30. No sign of leveling the construction site in the photo, likely the date is 1871 or even earlier.
