Hi There,

In the older photo, barb-wires could be seen when we zoom in.  On the other hand, I remember seeing similar fence in other military sites.  I vaguely remember the former Chatham Camp had those back in the 1970's, but could not remember exectly where.

Thanks Thomas.

I hadn't spotted the wire but what do look like barbs are just some of the many black dots (dust?) that were on my original 35mm slide.  There were too many for me to want to bother erasing them on all my slide copies!

I had always thought that the paling fence was a wooden one but the uprights are so uniform it was possibly a metal one - especially as it lasted from 1958 or earlier right through until at least 1981!  I wonder why somebody went to so much trouble to fence off the river?   Maybe it had proved to be rather a dangerous spot right next to the road. I'll add the 1958 photo here for comparison.

Perhaps, now that we have access to the high resolution '1963.2 Aerial Survey Suv' map, it might be possible to pinpoint the places where I took other photographs from alongside the old Kam Tin road, especially as I am fairly sure that most of them, including the black and white ones, were taken between Yuen Long and Kam Tin.

Best wishes,  Andrew
