Father John Toomey
Father John Joseph Toomey went to China in 1922 and was stationed in Kwangtung (Guangdong). In 1926, he was assigned to Manila. By 1931 he had returned to Kongmoon (Jiangmen).
During Toomey's internment, he took over Red Cross relief activities after Arthur M. Fifer had left Stanley Camp in June 1942 as a result of his repatriation. During his time in camp, he was also Treasurer of the community council. After Toomey's release from confinement in September 1942, he was later given permission to enter China and proceed to the Maryknoll mission in Kweilin (Guilin). He arrived in Kwelin in late January 1943. By 1944, he had returned to the United States.
After the end of the Pacific War, he returned to Kongmoon, and finally left China for good in 1952.
