HO Chee Tin was born to immigrants in Hong Kong in 1928. His parents had come from Panyu in Guangdong Province. He lived in Hong Kong throughout the Japanese occupation before joining the Royal Navy in the 1950s. He served on HMS Tyne and HMS Ladybird at Sasebo Naval Base in Japan during the Korean War. He played football during his time in the Navy and played football for Jardine's and South China after leaving the Navy. Later on he worked in a shipping firm in Hong Kong until retirement. He married YU Shui Choi, who was a refugee from Guangdong Province, and they had three children, one of whom emigrated to the United Kingdom in 1974. He died in 2008 and has descendants in Hong Kong, Britain and Australia. His wife YU Shui Choi died in 2009.

Thank you for sharing the information and football team photographs of your grandfather. Members of the Hong Kong Football History Society checked the historical match statistics but was unable to find any Hong Kong Football Association 1st Division (the top-tier then) match in which your grandfather played in. Could he have played for the 2nd Division teams of Navy, Jardine and South China?

Many thanks for looking into this. I have virtually no information about my grandfather other than my dad told me that he played for Jardine and South China after he was in the Navy. He could well have been in the 2nd Division. Is there any way of finding out?

You are welcome. Information about the 2nd Division matches or teams is scant but sometimes there were mentions in newspapers..For example, Mr. HO Chee Tin's name was mentioned in a newspaper article about a friendly match in Yuen Long (see the other thread about the Jardine team photo).

News about naval football teams were sometimes reported in English newspapers. There is a slight possibility that contemporary Royal Navy publications had reports.
