Soldiers pulling car away from Cathedral after wedding

The granite column behind the soldiers is the original War Memorial Cross that was unveiled on the grounds of St. John's Cathedral on 30 January 1921. See China Mail dated 31 January 1921  A list of soldiers who died in the Great War is mentioned in the article. 

The Cross was damaged during the Second World War and reduced to a single granite column. It was replaced with the current Celtic Cross in 1952. The original bronze tablet bearing the names of soldiers who died in World War One is now in the Chapel of St. Michael.
