By comparing the 1985 topographic map, it seems that the milestone is more likely to be further north, somewhere near the bus stop at Waldorf Garden as shown below:
This section may be problematic as Castle Peak Road had likely been widened during the Tuen Mun redevelopment in the 1980s. It may have been further widened when light rail started running alone side this section. The original location of the mile stone may have been bulldozed beyond recognition.
Yes, you are right. No Light rail at that junction. But based on the bridge next to the Pui To statio, I guess the then KCRS had planned something going that way. The Castle Peak Road had been widened indeed. I guess there may be some aerial photos or old maps for that section. More digging then.
