That's an interesting ruin I hadn't heard of before - thanks for posting,

industrialhistoryhk.org has some more information about pearl culture around Tai Po: https://industrialhistoryhk.org/pearl-cultivation-tai-sea-tolo-harbour/

It closed in 1981, according to this entry in the Agriculture and Fisheries report for 1980

Pearl Oyster Culture

246.    The pearl oyster culture farm situated at Lo Fu Wat, Tolo Channel, ceased operation in September, 1981 when the licence expired.

According to the records I found that Hong Kong have four place have pearl farm during 1950 to 1980 which located in Lo Fu Wat, Fung Wong Wat, Crooked Island (Kat O) and Lai Chi Chong.

Nowadays, A Fisherman, Mr Yip from Sam Man Tsai had continued pearl faming at Lo Fu Wat and setup the oyster raft and Mr David Wong had oyster raft in Sai Kung.

Herewith more info. about David’s pearl farming.
