This is a bit random but I am looking for old images/pics of Hong Kong
around 1974-76.
I was living with my ex husband there, and he was in the army and
stationed at Victoria Barracks.
We were living in housing just above the Barracks. We used to walk up
a load of steps to a gate which was the perimeter of the barracks and
led to a main road. (if we got a taxi this road would take us round to
where we lived). After we crossed the road there was another gate and
approx a further 6 steps. ( i used to count them every time we walked
up them.) This led to 3 blocks of housing for military staff. we lived
in the 3rd block.
Has anyone on your site got any images/photos of this time. Sadly
after moving around and my divorce I have lost so many photos and this
was a lovely time with such good memories that me and my children had
and I would love to see it all again.
I know it is a long shot but if you can help it would be very much appreciated.
re: Hong Kong 1974/76
Hi,
Can you remember any more about the type of building you lived in, eg if it was an old victorian-style, or a modern concrete building, and how many storeys it had?
The main road you crossed was probably Kennedy Road.
Here are the photos we have from Hong Kong in the 1970s:

Please let us know if you find it.

Hong Kong 1974/76
Hi David
Your right it was Kennady Road I had forgotten.
The Blocks of flats were proberly Victorian. They were all 3 stories High and each block contained 12 flats 2/3 bedrooms. Each block was seperated with a fence and gated. the steps went passed each of the blocks of flats and outside the fencing.
Will look through the link you sent and hopefully may find something there.

Lesley
Could it have been the
Could it have been the Roberts Block:

It looks to match your description of its location.

One of the blocks was
One of the blocks was Roberts. Then there was Stanley I think but I cannot remember the 3rd one.
The only photo I can see on the site of when we were there was the swimming pool and Naafi at victoria barracks. I will keep browsing and see if I can find any more.
Thank-you for your help.

Lesley
Wikipedia says there are
Wikipedia says there are three blocks: Roberts, Montgomery, and Cassels.
All three still exist and are Grade I listed:
re: Roberts Block
actually is empty now, not seen any plans for it
Re: Victoria Barracks
Hi Gweilo8888,
Cassels Block is located north of Kennedy Road and close to St. Joseph's Path.
Robers and Montgomery Blocks are south of Kennedy Road (and therefore I don't know if they were part of Victoria Barracks). A photograph of them is the lower photograph at the 11 o'clock position here.
Yes, if I was paying
Yes, if I was paying attention there's also a list of demolished blocks further down the Wiki entry. Could be one of those, too -- they don't list demolition dates for any of them.
Re: Victoria Barracks
Hi Gweilo8888,
Yes, the Wikipedia page on Victoria Barracks needs some reorganisation! Based on a Google search, Hamilton Block seems to have been situated in the vicinity of Montgomery and Roberts Blocks, but was demolished.
Hi David
Hi David
The Block which Wikipedia says was Cassels block was actually "Hamilton Block" this was where we lived and was looking for I found this one on fli
According to Wikipedia Hamilton Block was returned from the British Forces to the Hong Kong Government in 1967 but i definatly lived there 1974/1976
Kind regards
Lesley
Hamilton Block
Glad to hear you've found it. There's a good map of the old Victoria Barracks buildings at: https://www.flickr.com/photos/61422138@N04/6774620003/in/photostream
Hamilton Block has been demolished and is now the site of "The PRC Ministry of Foreign Affairs Buildings", but I think the two buildings on the slope below (Montgomery and Roberts Blocks) are still standing.
