MR E. J. AINSLIE PASSES
For Many Years on Staff Of Lane, Crawford.
The death occurred of Mr Ernest James Ainslie, formerly of Messrs Lane, Crawford, Ltd, at St Teresa’s Hospital, Kowloon, yesterday, after a short illness.
The late Mr Ainslie, who was of a very kindly disposition, and was much esteemed, joined the staff of Messrs Lane, Crawford, as far back as 1910. He resigned in 1935 owing to ill-health.
During the Great War, Mr Ainslie served as a member of the Hongkong Volunteers, and was also for a time in the Special Police. He was a member of the Engineers Institute for many years.
Besides his widow, Mr Ainslie is survived by his son, Mr G. Ainslie of the Colonial Secretariat, and his stepson, Mr. W. S. Gegg, well-known cricketer, who Is at present studying at the University of Hongkong.
The funeral will pass the Monument at 5.30 p.m, to-day.

Ernest James Ainslie was baptised 22nd April 1885 at the Parish Church of St. James the Apostle, Dover, Kent. His father was George Ainslie and mother was Maria Mary Anne (or Ann) Coveney.
He was married to Annie Elizabeth ('Bess') James (1892-15th April 1923)

The death occurred on Sunday, April 16th, at the Nursing Home, 11, Owls Rd., Boscombe, Bournemouth, of Mrs. Annie Elizabeth Ainslie, aged 31 years, the wife of Mr. Ernest James Ainslie, of Hong Kong. The body was brought to Dover by motor hearse for burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, the funeral taking place on Thursday last week, the Rev. O.F.R. Strickland officiating. The mourners present were Mr. W.G. James (father), and Captain George R. Ainslie and Mr. James Darby (brothers-in-law). Floral tributes were sent from her broken-hearted husband; Daddy and Georgie; her father; Pim Georgie; John and Girlie; George and Bunny; Mary, Harold, and family (Golders Green); Helen and Jim; Mr. and Mrs Fawcett (Hong Kong); Miss Scarlett and Miss Langley (42, Liverpool St., Dover); and the directors and staff of Messrs. Lane, Crawford, Ltd. (Hong Kong). The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Venner and Son, 39, High St., Dover.
NB. although the newspaper obituary stated the death occured on 16th April, Sunday was actually the 15th April 1923 as per her monumental inscription:
