Greetings. I believe there were still farms nearby when this photo was taken. So the ladies were wearing extra protection from the sun. I count three cigarette smokers, and remember the extension pipe used in the 1960s. Regards, Peter
It was certainly a very hot and humid day! We got the impression that they were deliberately staging a photograph for unwary tourists - all rushing out through the gate and donning their hats when they saw us and several other people arriving - and possibly smoking the pipes to add to the picturesque nature of the group. There was a well rehersed chorus of "One photograph one Dollar!" Best wishes, Andrew
