The Indian Recreation Club was established in 1917. At the club’s inaugural meeting in September 1917, Mr. J.H.N Mody was elected President, Position he served until 1925.

The club allotted its present site by the Government in 1918 but it was not until July 1919 that the grounds were ready for play. A club-house in the form of a mat-shed (typical for the day) was put up and members started to prepare a cricket pitch or “wicket” and trained hard to be ready for their first game on “home soil”...
