The traditional large tall funnel and a midcastle which extends beyond the bridge are characteristics of a Blue Funnel line class A cargo passenger vessel. Hard to say which one, as 27 ships of this type were built after World War 2. Blue Funnel and similar Glen Line vessels (both owned by Alfred Holt & Co.) were regular visitors to Hong Kong and could be seen berthed at Holt’s Wharf or out at the mooring buoys.
Casualties of the container revolution, most of these classic ships went to the breakers in the early 70s. However, four ships were sold to Ocean Tramping Company, a subsidiary of the Chinese state shipping company COSCO and could be seen in Hong Kong into the early 1980s.

Thank you for the information. I grew up near Hull in England and often saw ships like this of the Holts or Blue Funnel lines in the busy docks there. Andrew
