Please forgive my confusion but I wonder if someone could clarify. We are told that Mr. Shields died and was cremated in Hong Kong in 1971; however, it would appear that he was buried in Bexleyheath in the U.K. in the same year.
I presume that means that his ashes were taken back to the U.K. for burial?

Yes, that's the likely explanation. I see he'd got married in Kent and the cemetery is in Kent, so he was probably buried with family members there,
