Could be anywhere amongst the three or four storey buildings in Wan Chai. This one's structure looks to be in rather a bad state of repair - maybe one of the many that were badly damaged in 1941. It's possible that the top row of homes were some of the shacks built onto the flat roofs. How much better it would be for the shack dwellers when the government built the resettlement estates.

To take this photo, one would be peering from a building of similar height across a narrow street. I note there is a photo here from Fred Evans that shows I think the same building. I guess it was taken from a window of the Sailors and Soldiers' Home facing the building across Anton Street as seen here and here

Yes, that would all fit in. I never stayed at the Sailors and Soldiers Home - the Cheero Club and the China Fleet Club were used by my friends and me. Well spotted. Your comment nicely identifies the place, so I don’t think that I need to change the title. Andrew
