Does anyone know anything about this impressive mansion? I saw it for the first time in Peter's photo from 1939:

Looks like an example of Chinese Renaissance architecture. The 1952 map seems to indicate it was still there (or at least something was there) - just next to the "Q" of "Government Quarry".

Thanks for the tip. That led me to http://varsity.com.cuhk.edu.hk/index.php/2010/12/kai_yuen_street/ which talks about the modern Kai Yuen Street. The street follows the same line as the curved road leading to the mansion in the photo above. The article says:

The street was named after a magnificent mansion at the knoll. The mansion, Kai Yuen, was home for the family of Chan Wai-chow until it was demolished in the late 1960s. Chan Wai-chow was the brother of Chen Jitang who governed Guangdong province after the Kuomingtang’s Northern Expedition from 1929 to 1936. Chan built Kai Yuen 1938 after his brother’s downfall.
