A seemingly intact Moderne style residence located at 44 Island Road, also known as "Blue Bay" overlooking Middle Island. Probably constructed circa 1950s or 1960s. Would love to know more information about this beautiful building

Hi Jennifer,
"Names of Buildings" shows Year Built as 1949. See How to research old buildings in Hong Kong for this and other resources.

Architect for 44 Island Road
Accordingly to an article in The HK and Far East Builder (Vol. 7, No. 6, July/Aug 1949) this private residence was designed by Mr. Kuo Yaun-Hsish and the general contractors were Sun Cheong. I will attach a plan and photo from this article.

I lived in that house from 1977-1990. Beautiful home with wonderful views - probably the last one left standing on Island Road of this era. Property is divided into an upper and lower flat. The plan shows the upper flat (essentially ground floor as the property goes down the hill) but does not include an extension on the left hand side that was added sometime prior to 1977. Fascinating to see the architect and builder named.
44 Island Road Extension
I am interested to know more about the extension part of the house on the left (southern) hand side. Kitchen extension or pantry.
