people and pictures from late 1920-30s

You have already helped me with my inquiries about Kenneth Kingsley Staple and his wife Joan (my grandmother), also my great-Aunt Isa Warbrick (as has Barbara Anslow.) I have found various pictures of family and their friends from that time and wonder how best to post them in case they ring any bells with anyone. I am still laboriously trying to piece together their story in HK.

For instance I have quite a few pictures of them at their thatched 'holshed' at Repulse Bay, of friends pictured at their home on Braemar Terrace  (e.g. B.Maslin, Nola Chandler, 'Billie' Walker (a lady), Meg Wilson - who I know went out to HK on same ship as my grandmother), Pat James, Joan Cole, Rita Francis, Mac Maclean and his daughters Maureen and Denny. I also have various pictures of the family house at Suffolk Road, Kowloon (but don't know if this was after my grandfather was killed in 1931 or not). Plus one of my mum - Sheila Staple - there, wearing the school uniform which you featured in a picture of a pupil in a rickshaw recently - I think Kowloon Primary School? I also have some rather grainy general views which say they are 'from their house!), a couple of Queen Mary's hospital and one of Kowloon Hospital nursing quarters, which a Google Map of 2013 showed to be still P Block of the hospital (may now be gone).  Can you guide me as to how to post this random collection?  PS plus a couple of tennis parties ... all long shot stuff I know but anything is a piece in my jigsaw!

This will be an interesting collection to see!

Here are the instructions for how to upload a photo to Gwulo: http://gwulo.com/node/2076

I suggest you upload two or three photos of different types to see how it works, and in the notes for each photo tell us what you know about it, and any questions you're hoping to find answers to.

Regards, David

A couple of suggestions for the photos:

 - I'll make a gallery to group them all together. What would you like to call it? eg

1920s-30s Staple family's photos

 - Give each photo a title, to make it easier to catch people's attention. eg instead of "Image (47).jpg" for http://gwulo.com/atom/24467 you could use "Outside flat, Braemar Terrace"

 - Just show the photo without the white paper around it. Are you using a scanner to copy the photo? There's usually the option to use the mouse to draw a box around the area you're interested in before you click "Scan".

I'll also add comments on the photos.

Regards, David

thank you David - the above title sounds good - sorry about the jpg number - that one escaped me as clunky at this! Hope I'll improve as have a few more pics - yes I scan and I'm on a laptop with no mouse so the boxing not quite so easy. The comments are already helpful - though sad that at least two locations, Braemar Terrace and the Kowloon house gone (unsurprisingly) -especially as I have more pics of them! So from now, add pics to Staple family gallery? It will probs be a drip feed. will comment on Meg Wilson page you have made - also more pics and questions ...thanksagain!

Hello,

can you get in touch with me?

my living aunt is your mother’s first cousin.

looking forward to speaking with you

best wishes

Diana Martin

Hello Diana,

how poignant to receive your message on Armistice Day, also my grandfather Kenneth's birthday. I understand you are related to Kenneth's brother John Howard Staple. I would love to know more as somehow the connection with Ken's side of the Staple family was lost within my lifetime. My mother, who sadly died in 2014, believed she might have some French relatives and spoke more of two others. I will try to connect with you by email first,

best wishes to you too, Deb Coxon
