Flying Tigers-001

The 'Flying Tigers' appear to be used as a generic term in some quarters to describe any group involved in the Chinese/American side of the China/Japan war. Text from the Kun Tong exhibition's bookazine.

IDJ has it right.  The term "Flying Tigers" was first applied to the American Volunteer Group (AVG) and then passed on to the China Air Task Force (CATF), 14th Air Force, and Chinese American Composite Wing (CACW).  The term was and still is used to refer to any/all of these groups.

The information in the bookazine excerpt is generally accurate.  One inaccuracy, however: the bookazine states that Chennault was in charge of the transports flying supplies over the Hump.  Chennault certainly wished that he commanded these transports, but he didn't, and he had to argue with his higher-ups throughout the war for more supplies to be flown over the Hump.
