Whilst doing some follow up research on GKS, I was curious to where N.L.Smith was transferred when Gimson took his position in December 1941.

Did he remain in Hong Kong and where was he interned?

Records show that he was born in 1887 and died on Jan.27 1968. His wife died on Aug 6 1969. both are buried in St. James Cemetry, Selham.

Many thanks for the link. Most interesting.

The link above has been removed. Please use this link (below) for the updated account of  "The Last Voyage of the Ulysses" -  NL Smith and his daughter Rachel were passengers on the ill-fated voyage but survived the sinking.

There is also a good account in a limited edition privately published book entitled "Hong Kong Full Circle 1939-1945"  by Alexander Kennedy who was an RNVR officer serving with the MTBs. He escaped on 25th Dec 1941 with the five surviving MTBs. He was engaged to Rachel and married her when they were reunuited back in UK.
