This pic was taken in Central District, but I think it should be dated earlier, maybe early 1990s. The signage, 東記麵家 (Tong Kee Noodles) had 2 telephone numbers, 5459061 and 5416511. I googled 東記麵家 and the numbers, found that it is still in business at 4, Gage Street, Central, while the numbers become 25459061 / 25416511. I recall that in 1995 or 1996, phone numbers in Hong Kong were changed from 7 to 8 digits, with prefix digit "2" added to existing phone numbers.
The photo is showing Gage street alright. The business signs and the slope matched.
The business signs of Tung Kee and Lung Kee still exist a few years ago when the Google Street View vehicle went through Gage Street. The telephone numbers of Tung Kee on the sign is still showing the old ones.
Yes - many places didn't update their signs when the telephone numbering system changed. I date this 1998 because that's the date printed on the transparency mount when returned by Kodak after processing.
