Forest Lodge - who lived there ?

1877 - 85

Dr. & Mrs. William Stanley Adams,  "Forest Lodge", 11, Caine Road

Dr. Adams was a graduate of the University of Glasgow,  M.D. 1862, CM. 1862.  In 1867, when Surgeon to the Seamen's hospital, Hong Kong he married Susan Blanche Mary Hugo, at St. John's Cathedral 1867.

In 1885 a Miss Hugo is also listed at Forest Lodge.

William Stanley Adams (b.ca.1839, Hamilton, Scotland – d. January 10, 1898, Brentford, Middlesex, England)

He was Port Health Officer of Hong Kong between 1877 (or earlier) and 1889;

He was succeeded by Gregory Paul Jordan. He started a private practice in around 1880, in which he invited G.P. Jordan to join soon after the latter arrived in Hong Kong in 1884.

The firm of Drs. Gregory Paul Jordan and W.S. Adams would evolve into Drs. Anderson & Partners.  He eventually retired to Edmonton, Middlesex in 1891, probably after having practiced for a while in London.

Hello Annelisec. Thanks for your information on Forest Lodge. Can you kindly tell me how you arrived at the 1869 date as the completion date of Forest Lodge? I read your Lancet 1867 link, and the article on the Pedigree of the Family of Hugo of St. Feock, but could not find any clues leading to year 1869. Will appreciate your help deeply.

Hi Annelisec,

Here's a bit of info from my website which I got from the family research of the Warrens done by a family member named Brian Lewis as you will see from the attribution.

........ the South China Ladies’ Directory of 1904 which shows a Mrs Olson at 33 Caine Road, a Miss L.Olson (daughter Elizabeth?) and a Mrs C.E. Warren (step-daughter Hannah). (Research Brian Lewis)

I know that you have access to some of these directories and wonder if you can clear up the mystery because according to this 33 was not named as Forest Lodge in 1904.

The Mrs Olson mentioned would have been my great grandmother Ching Ah Fung aka Ellen Olson who is buried in Happy Valley.

Best,

Sean

Hi Annelisec,

I know you posted in 2010 on same subject and had a conversation with Liz Chater. At that time I made the same point as I made on this posting.

A simple question.

Who lived at 33 Caine Road between the years of 1901 and 1909? I know that the road was renumbered and I also know that my information is secondhand as I have not had access to the Blue Book.

If you go back to my original post in 2010 I do not see an answer to my query then and I don't see one now. What does the Blue Book say?

Thanks,

Sean
