"Collective Memory" is an interesting concept.  There are still many in Hong Kong and the rest of the world who remember Queen's Pier as it was in this photo, but they are fewer that the number who remember the ugly - recently demolished pier.  Whose memory counts - and if there are none to remember - but there are still photos - then how should we build for the past, present and future ?

One important aspect, I suggest, is that care should be taken in the naming of places shown in images, so that future researchers are not confused.  I strongly urge that names should not be used where such names did not exist at the time the photo was taken.  Just one of many examples is the old photo of Queen's Road outside Wellington Barracks, described as "Queensway".  There was no "Queensway" until the military and naval lands were resumed by the Government.  The same goes for "Admiralty" applied to the area now so called but before the MTR was built and the name came into existence.
