54 Sassoon Road
I couldn't find out much about it on the web:
- This document notes it was "identified as having been constructed prior to 1945 in the Ratings and Valuations Department 'List of Buildings'".
- And this document (see appendix H) has a letter dated 29 Feb 2008 from The Dairy Farm Group, that begins "We are the property owner of Point Breeze..."

Re: Point Breeze
Great find about Dairy Farm Group being the owner of Point Breeze. Thanks.
I found a reference to a 1966 directory that listed the resident of 54 Sassoon Road as: Gwyn McCall Hughes and his wife. Mr. Hughes was president and managing director of American International Assurance Co. at the time. A 1973 director listed him as chairman of the company and his residence was still said to be 54 Sassoon Road.
Point Breeze
Notes from T:
Hi there,
I went down Sasson Road yesterday. From the location close to the end of it you could only see the roof top of Point Breze partially. Please see the one with the white chimney behind the trees:
I did not go down the narrow service road which run along #50. You might have a better view going down there a little bit, I think.
Best Regards,
T
Re: Point Breeze
Thanks for going down to Sassoon Road, T. The house is well hidden from the road and even going down the (private) service road won't yield a much better view.
Re: Point Breeze
Hi there,
I might have captured Point Breeze from the sea side, but it's not much. I was on a ferry to Silvermine Bay. It had been a bit hazy:
The pavilion seemed to match. The chimney also appeared to match. Part of it is blocked by another bungalow next door, I'm afraid.
If someone could take shot on a leisure boat or from the Lamma Island Ferry.......
Best Regards,
T
Point Breeze
Difficult to see how the house looks, but thanks for the picture, tngan. I have seen a few aerial pictures of that area and, sadly, Point Breeze is always just out of shot.
Re: Point Breeze
Hi there,
I have copied that section in full size and tuned it up a little bit:
It's still blurred, but at least we could see the house has big windows facing the sea.
Best Regards,
T
Re: Point Breeze, update 24th April 2011
Hi there,
We've got a very fine Easter Sunday and there was no haze, smog. Got another snap on the ferry to Silvermine Bay earlier. Please see the zoomed in section:
This time it is quite clear. Big windows is now confirmed. I guess more details could be taken on a Cheung Chau ferry.
Best Regards,
T
Re: Point Breeze, a bit more update, 6th June 2011
Hi there,
I was wandering in Cyberport earlier and noticed Point Breeze is partially visible on street level, just north of the shopping arcade. If it is autumn with less vegetation around more could be seen. The white pavilion is clearly visible when I was on the terrace on level 3 of the arcade.
I took some photos, but it's not much as most of the building had been obscured by trees. Only the white walls, something like a narrow balcony could be seen from the terrace, with the help of a high power zoom lens.
When I walk up the slope along the road on the seaward side, some more of the building could be seen when I was half way up. A few windows, I think. A bit more update after inspecting the photos as they are really not much to be seen. You may always go there with a telescope though.
It is occupied as I saw outdoor illumination.
Best Regards,
T
This one was taken from the Seaview Terrace of the Cyberport Arcade, the other one was taken from close to the top where Cyberport Road meets Sha Wan Drive, looking up.
Re: Point Breeze June 8th pictures
Thanks for the latest pictures, tngan. Sorry it took so long for me to see the post. I haven't logged in lately.
You know what, your picture #64 is interesting and it leads me to believe that it might be the house used in the old 1978 TVB Series 'Giants'. If the carport is located below the narrow balcony - in the series a staircase went down from the balcony - then it is likely the house.
