With regard to David's post on teaching history and the comment that students love guessing what objects were used for, I thought I would upload this photo of a Kut Hing pewter cocktail shaker made in Swatow and which my uncle's wife thought it worth salvaging as a keepsake of her life in Hong Kong when she left for England with her children in 1938. The cocktail shaker has disappeared from domestic use nowadays. I've tentatively dated this one as from the 1920s. There are several antique Kut Hing cocktail shakers on the market with different dragon designs. This dragon is particularly fierce.
