Cenotaph and Queen's Pier

Cenotaph and Queen's Pier

Written on the other side was:

the War Memorial (1916-1918)
This as will be seen is a replica of the Cenotaph in white hall
the Flags were removed by Japanese during Occupation
Hong Kong January, 1946

(perhaps 1946 was the date the words were written then ?)

Date picture taken (may be approximate):
Tuesday, January 1, 1946

Probably taken prior to 1941 as the statues in the Square are still visible. On the left I think it is the King Edward VII Statue with Sir Henry May on the right. See: http://gwulo.com/node/4979

I've been watching eBay these last few days, and saw this is one of a batch from the same owner, all dated 1946. The odd thing is that, as we see here, several show scenes that no longer existed post-war.

My guess is that some entrepreneur was producing postcards for the troops in town at the time, and was using pre-war negatives / copying pre-war photos to make the early batches of photos & postcards for sale.
