There were three trams decorated in British colonial style welcoming the Royal Houses. In November 1961 tram 200 covered by "Welcoming to H.R.H. Princess Alexandra" with illuminations and coloured ribbons. In 1977 tram 22 designated for the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, and 1986 on tram 144 for the re-visit of The QEII in mid-October 1986. Pedder Building (畢打行) was built in 1923 by the architectural firm of Palmer and Turner. In the pre-Second World War period, most tenants were foreign commercial firms with their headquarters or branches set up in Central. Most tenants evacuated before the Japanese Occupation (1941-1945), and consequently the Japanese and Chinese firms moved in.
