Charles Gesner van der Voort (1916-1991) worked for Holland-China Trading Company (HCHC) in Shanghai; it also had offices in Hong Kong and Tientsin (Tianjin). One of its first directors, Mr. Willem Kien, worked in China from 1898. After HCHC was founded in 1903, he worked for the company in Hong Kong and Shanghai. The Japanese interned him, and most other Dutch nationals, from 1943-45. In camp, he met his wife Nancy and they married after the war. This could be anywhere in the New Terrritories, but it is with photographs taken in the West and I think that this mus thave been on the Castle Peak Road possibly near Yuen Long. It is not a race as behind the racing bikes there are several 'sit up and beg ones', especially the very high one at the back ridden by the man in dark clothing. It's probably a cycling club.
