Clara Mary Beatrice ROWE (née MOORE BURKE) [1886-1912]

Submitted by jill on

Clara Rowe née Moore Burke was the elder sister of Annie Louisa Olson. The two sisters were brought up and educated at the Canossian Convent in Hong Kong. Clara married Charles Rowe, a rubber planter, in Singapore in 1912. She died of puerperal fever the same year leaving no children. Family photos show Charles Rowe with his second wife and their son. I have been unable to discover where he was buried.

Whampoa Dock Company vessels

Submitted by Daisy1942 on

Hi All,

I am looking for a picture of the water boat Daisy or her sister ship Heather.  They were built for Hammer & Co Singapore circa 1937/8.  Daisy successfully escaped the Fall of Singapore taking a group of 13 or 14 men to the Djambi River mouth where she was scuttled.  The Japanese raised her and used her as a dumb lighter.  Post WW2 she was returned to Hammer & Co.

Any information about Daisy would be very much appreciated.

Cargo/passenger service between Singapore and Hong Kong in early eighties

Submitted by Michael G. on

Hi there,

I read that there was once a cargo/passenger boat service between Hong Kong and Singapore and I'd like to know if you could tell me more about it, especially for the year 1980.

Could you for instance tell me or direct me to a site where I could find the timetables of such a service, the name(s) of the ship(s), the cost, the duration and so on?

Once again, I'd be very glad to hear from you,

Lovely Easter to you all,

Michael
