Braathens-Schoolchildren's holiday plane-SCMP 8 Jan 1948

The Norwegian airline Braathens S.A.F.E. was the first airline to offer flights bring Hong Kong schoolchildren back for their summer holidays. This was in 1948. Later the SCMP reported their success and that one father who had been interned in Shamshuipo during war saw his son for the first time in nine years and another child had his first return visit in fourteen years. 1960s Kai Tak Airport Airside Carpark

The Airport Main Fire Station adjacent to Sung Wong Toi Road can be seen below the black smoke from the Green Island Cement Factory. Note the temporary control tower from the early 1960s (yet to be demolished) which was replaced in 1962 with the construction of the Passenger Terminal Building.
