On Christmas Day, it was an R.A.F. tradition that the commissioned officers and senior non commissioned officers should serve the Christmas dinner to the other ranks.  Here, Wing Co. Segar is addressing the hungry men, while some of the cooks and his fellow officers look on.  The single winged brevet above his medals shows that he had been an Observer on flying duties.

Each Christmas, it was the custom for teleprinter operators on the various camps around the World to construct greetings cards using the letters and other symbols on their 'typewriters'.

Details of what you were about to get - even down to milk with your cereals and gravy with the main course. Perhaps a big effort was being made to make the meals look better than they might be in practice.

In 1952 other ranks enjoyed their Christmas meals, which in the light of difficult times were quite good.  In later years the menus were more professionally produced, but the menus remained pretty much the same.
