Hacka women harvesting rice.

Date picture taken (to nearest decade for older photos):
1958

I suspect that this photograph was taken somewhere on the road between Sek Kong and Yuen Long.  Perhaps the mountains will provide a more accurate location. Harvesting rice by hand and using those huge baskets must now be a thing of the past.  Even by 1981, I recall that rice paddies and fish and duck farms were becoming rather an unusual sight. This was possibly a group going for a swim.  The man on the right was David Whyborn, who trained with me in the U.K.  (Andrew S)

Can anyone identify where this was taken?  I think that it must have been reasonably close to Sek Kong and more or less accessible by truck.  (Andrew S)

This was probably taken in the same location as the previous photograph, but it does not look like the same dam or pool, so there may have been several stages on the waterfall and several pools.  (Andrew S)

The 3 ton Bedford trucks were used a great deal in the 1950s.  The guy on the left is drying his face and it looks like towels hanging over the side to dry. If so, the lorry must thave been able to drive fairly close to the swimming place.  (Andrew S)

Sek Kong army camp cinema.

The Army named their cinemas 'The Globe' whereas the R.A.F.'s were 'The Astra'.  I understand that this building was located just inside the main gate and on the left.  (Andrew S)
