The Fairstar cruise ship in 1981

Submitted by Michael G. on

Hello everyone,

My name is Michael and I'm a French writer currently working on a novel. For this reason, I'm looking for information about the Fairstar and her 29-day voyage in July 1981, from Darwin to Sydney, via Bali, Singapore, Hong Kong, Manila, Ambon, Cairns, Whitsunday, and Brisbane.

Is there anyone here who knows about this voyage and could tell me about it, perhaps sharing anecdotes, incidents, weather conditions, encounters, life on board, etc.?

This would be invaluable in making my novel more realistic.

Thanks,

Michael

More detailed information on Frank Summers is given by annpake in the threads on his father Edwin Summers and his mother Celestina Summers. He was killed at Ypres, Belgium in WW1, fighting with the Australian army. He has a memorial in St Michael's Cemetery. His brothers were Alec and Charles Summers and his sister Eva Margaret Forbes.

Hong Kong Chinese sent to Australia as convicts

I was wondering if there is much known about Hong Kong Chinese who were sent to Australia as convicts? I am currently taking a course through Oxford Online on the British Empire and I came across a small mention in one of the course readings, from the Australian Government website, that Hong Kong Chinese were sent to Australia as convicts. I also wondered too if any British citizens in Hong Kong were also sent to Australia as convicts?
