A long shot this one: I lived in HK from birth (1964) to 1985.
in the mid 1970s I'd wake up every day - in our 9th floor apartment in La Hacienda, Mount Kellett Road, The Peak - to the English language version of Commercial Radio. For a few mins before the 6am news that started their broadcasting day, they would play a tune - classical, mellow tune with oboes or clarinets & violins/cellos.
I am trying to track down this tune!!! Very nostalgic connotations. If anyone knows what I'm on about...let me know, any clues very much appreciated.
Commerical Radio - Start up tune
Possibly Handel's Water Music
AET
Mei Foo Sun Chuen
Commercial Radio HK was first operated at today's Mei Foo Sun Chuen in 1959. Then moved to no 10 Tat Chee Avenue, Kowloon Tong temporarily in 1966 and finally moved to Broadcast Road since 1971.
Commercial Radio in FM!
I used to get so frustrated that all the cool stations in HK were only on the AM band until I discovered by flook that up on the Peak where I lived, I could pick up CM on the FM band!
I guess they must have beamed it to the transmitting station south of the island in FM where it was then rebroadcast in AM
