The house called "Mount Gough" was one of several on RBL 1. The earliest mention of it I have seen is in the Renumbering Exercise of 19 June 1908 where it was described as a "New House" on RBL 1 and allocated Peak No.119a, but with no name mentioned (1). The previous renumbering exercise relating to Peak properties had been published on 2 Aug 1907 but did not mention this building (2).

Not being included in the August 1907 list, but being included in the June 1908 list and described therein as "new", suggests it was completed sometime between these two dates.

The 1909 Peak map labels the property as "119a, Mr. Bowley's House Mount Gough". Perhaps including the owners name was an attempt to reduce possible confusion arising from giving the house the same name as the mountain upon which it stood.

Confusingly, the 1908 Peak Directory lists Mr. F.B.L. Bowley as living at "Mount Gough, 119b". I presume this is a typo and should read 119a.

Mr. Bowley's full name was Francis Balmer Lyon Bowley. He was the Crown Solicitor (4).
