9 May 1943, Leo Landau's wartime diary

Submitted by Grace on

Black out last night, the weather is fine and dry. The bath house was closed in the p.m. due to a member of the Canadian unit leaving a visiting card in the water, the dirty swine. Jim Leach, Henningsen, & Booker over for coffee. Crew while collecting the rations came into camp, gave the usual eyes left while passing the guard house, whereupon the sentry stopped the party and ordered to have the men march pass doing the German goose step. In the midst of a heated words between Crew & sentry the guard sgt appeared. Upon learning the nature of the arguement then handed his sun helmet to Crew and commenced punishing the sentry according to the Japanese method — slapping.

Tunis & Berezta fallen, this is the best news I have heard for a very long time.

Had a game of volley ball in the evening.
