Had a few words with Weill over cooking he seem to act rather odd as it (sp.?) now I am not talking to him. We had a detail in the evening write an account of our war experience, well this was mine that I sent in with care!
I was sad when I heard that war had come to H.K. I was also very surprised as I always felt that countries who had friendly relationships in the past would continue so; but I was mistaken, war had struck HK on Dec. 8 - 1941 - I was a member of the H.K.V.D.C 1st Battery who were stationed at Fort D'Aguilar; my work was cook for the battery.
While stationed at F.D. my hours were long and hard; breakfast, lunch, dinner, kept me so very busy that I hardly had a spare moment to my self, and all I knew of the war was the sound of planes overhead and the occasional sound of a gun. On the 18th we left F.D. for Stanley Fort, when once again I continued in my job as cook. From then until the war was over it was just one long job of cooking: men always wanting something to eat or a cup of tea to drink. Here again as in Fort D'Aguilar I had no direct(sp.?) contact with the war except for hearing of planes and guns.
I had my first view of a Japanese soldier when the war came to an end and we as prisoners of war left Stanley for North Point Camp under escort of Japanese soldiers.
