In early Hong Kong Protestant historiography, the closely knit networks of prominent Christian families often lead to identity conflations. A classic example is the long-standing confusion surrounding the family of early educator and To Tsai Ui Tong (道濟會堂) elder Fung Fu (馮扶/馮拔臣). While prior secondary literature—including Dr. Ip Sum-ming’s thesis "Salvation from Above" and Carl Smith's Chinese Christians (2005)—conflated or misidentified the maternal lineage of Fung Fu's descendants, recent cross-examinations of primary archives, family records, and tombstone epigraphy have successfully resolved the puzzle.
 
 
 
  • Kwan Yuen-cheung (1833–1912): Born Kwan Chun-yung (關振容, using his branch's personal generational word), he universally used "Kwan Yuen-cheung" in business, church, and official colonial affairs.
  • Kwan Yun-fat (1835–1901): Commonly recorded as Kwan Yun-fat, official documents (such as the 1878 Hong Kong Education Report listing private English-school masters) explicitly register him as Kwan Yuen-fat (關元發).
